Did Marquette Set Low Turnover Mark?

January 27, 2009 clintjohnson Leave a comment

I’ve been Googling this, but have not had tons of success finding an answer. Last night, in their win against Notre Dame, Marquette’s men’s basketball team had only 3 turnovers. If you find the answer, please comment and link to it! Thanks in advance!

Coach Kay Yow

Yesterday, our world lost one of it’s best and brightest people! North Carolina State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow passed away after a battle with cancer that was a long haul, but fought with the intensity of a never-give-up warrior!

I never had the chance to meet Coach Yow, but in reading all of the remembrances of her, I find out all that I need to know about how much she was loved.

I’ll copy and paste Coach K’s quote about her following Duke’s game yesterday.

Coach K On the passing of Kay Yow: (taken from http://www.goduke.com)
“Over the years, I’ve had a lot of time to interact with her through the V Foundation. The great thing about her is that she had the courage to fight her battle in public, and as a result she not only fought for herself, but for everybody that has cancer, will have cancer, and for the families who are involved. She created an amazing awareness for that fight and set such a good example, especially in this area with Jimmy [Valvano] as a male and for Kay to do that, I don’t think any area of the country has brought an awareness to the fight against cancer like this one. God bless her – she was a terrific lady. A fighter ‘til the end.”

O.K., now back to my post.

I read her testimony recently, about how she invited an N.C. State Campus Crusade rep to speak following a practice in 1975, and gave her life to Jesus after that. She was a neat example of a person who lived her life for Jesus 24/7, and a great example for us all to follow.

Rest In Peace, Coach Yow!

Coach Yow is not suffering anymore! She’s with Jesus now, and her cancer is gone! However, please pray for everyone who loved her, as they are experiencing the loss of a mother figure, friend, and Christ-like example in their lives.

The latest news on Coach Yow is that she is back in the hospital. It’s not looking the greatest, but keep in mind that she has perservered before. Still, it’s serious! Keep praying, and I’ll keep you posted!

Obama Gets It!

My respect for Barack Obama increased today! He called John McCain a hero in a speech. He’s all about working together. No two people will ever agree on all things. It’s all about standing united, though, in what we want to accomplish in the grand scheme of things. It’s about finding common ground! That’s what America needs big-time!

Warsaw High School Students and Staff Attending Inauguration!

January 19, 2009 clintjohnson Leave a comment

Neat article here!

I went to high school with Dave Hoffert, the teacher of the class that is going. It’s pretty cool that they get to go see history being made in person.

I have to work during the inauguration, but I may be able to watch some of it on some closed-captioned televisions that are at my workplace.

Keep checking the website above where the article is, because David Slone, the author, is on hand with the class, and will be filing daily reports.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King  is one of my heroes! I am so thankful for all that he did in the area of civil rights and promoting racial equality! He would be so excited to see Barack Obama taking the oath of office tomorrow. We finally have an African American president! Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream is being lived out. On this day, when we specifically remember him, I wanted to pay tribute to him here on my blog.
